CREDENTIALSBo's "Big Band Dance Party" program is broadcast on WNAV Radio. WNAV is owned by television personality Pat Sajak who resides in the Annapolis, MD area. Bo is a member of the Society of Singers, Big Band Academy of America, Big Bands International, Omicron Delta Kappa Nat'l. Leadership Society, Chesapeake Cultural Arts and other professional and cultural organizations... The "Big Band Dance Party" (BBDP) is a show built on the love of American popular music of the late 1930s to the new retro-swing music of today. Though originally targeted to the 35-and-over market, the BBDP has experienced a rapid growth in popularity with younger audiences in recent years. This generational cross-over is due in part to the resurgence of Swing Music and Swing Dancing, especially with the 16-34 age group. Additionally, the music selections include a mix of classic Swing and hot Jazz along with the new Swing Bands currently charting on popular Radio. The "Big Band Dance Party" is the culmination of years of experience, research and production. The show's executive producer/host Bo Lewis has accumulated one of the nation's finest collections of 1930s to '60s Swing and Popular Music. Although Bo has an enormous collection of Classic Music on original records, he also has the New Swing tunes of today on state-of-the-art Compact Discs . Bo's music library is accompanied by a superb reference library; the result of many years of scholarly research, followed by years of actual broadcasts. The depth of knowledge creates one of the most informative, accurate and fun music programs on the "airwaves". The format is a unique presentation of music, not just announced by artist and title, but cross-referenced with the year of recording, whether it was a #1 song, soloists performing, composers, whether the song was from a show or film, and who performed it in the show or film. Additional interesting information is shared with the listeners as Bo reveals such facts as: other artists who recorded the song; biographical information; and even famous individual musicians who may have secretly sat-in with the band during the recording sessions. This "insider" information adds to the fun and enhances the listening experience. The "Big Band Dance Party" is dedicated to entertain, educate and inspire. Swing and Jazz music is around the world now, and Bo is one of the Disc Jockeys who is leading the way. Everyday, more and more people are discovering "Swing", "Jazz" and "Big Band" music for the first time. New Swing, Jazz and Pop recording artists like "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy", "Royal Crown Revue", "Cherry Poppin' Daddies", the "Brian Setzer Orchestra", "Harry Connick Jr." and "Diana Krall" have music on the Billboard and Radio&Records music charts. Newly digitized recordings by classic Big Band artists like "Glenn Miller", "Benny Goodman", "Harry James" and "Count Basie" have also become extremely popular. The Arthur Murray Dance Studios and other Dance Instructors all over the USA are reporting a huge upsurge in people taking lessons to learn how to Swing Dance. You can E-Mail Bo at bolewis@toad.net.
